European Museum of the Year Awards

  • National Museum Cardiff, Cathays Park Cardiff, CF10 3NP United Kingdom (map)

The annual European Museum of the Year Conference and Awards Ceremony showcases innovation in European museums.

It is a unique opportunity for those who are planning to create a new museum, invigorate an existing museum, and learn about the latest developments in the public quality of museums. Hosted by Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales, the 2020 conference will take place at National Museum Cardiff. The theme will be "Museum Innovation and Cultural Democracy". This is a time of unprecedented political instability in Europe as a whole, and particularly in the four nations of the United Kingdom. Wales, as one of these nations, is unique in its efforts to create social and cultural policies that actively address the deep inequalities that exist between its citizens.

The keynote speakers, who will include the Commissioner for the Well-being of Future Generations in Wales, will bring international perspectives on the conference theme, exploring the unprecedented challenges that humanity has created for its societies and the natural environment, and presenting some of the innovative solutions developed by museums and other organisations in response to these.

Due to COVID-19, this event has been postponed. Dates will be announced in due course.
